Thank you for joining us at our April Chapter Meeting!
April Chapter Meeting - SquareTrade
Thursday, April 21st
Sprung from a simple idea (“Give people protection that covers the breaks, spills and mishaps of everyday life, and treat our customers like we'd want to be treated.”), SquareTrade has become one of the fastest growing warranty companies in the US, providing hassle-free protection plans for cell phones, computers, appliances, TVs and more. With headquarters in both San Francisco and London and the recently established center of excellence in Orlando (now 140 members strong), it is clear that they are not done growing - not only to meet the needs of their loyal client base of over 20 million satisfied customers (I should say that qualifies as “legion!”), but also to match the speed of technological innovation.
Despite its recent entry into the marketplace, SquareTrade (Estd 1999) has received numerous high-profile accolades, notably having been awarded a 2015 Best Places to Work nod, a 2015 Big Innovation Finalist spot, a 2014 People’s Choice Stevie for Favorite Customer Service, etc. The organization has established a strong service culture, and has given a decidedly “millennial” twist to its core values -
- Treat every customer as if you were the customer.
- Never stop asking how we can do things better.
BE AN ENTREPRENEUR
- Use resources wisely. Creativity, smart execution and long-term thinking are free.
MAKE AN IMPACT
- Be passionate about what you do. Make a difference. Get stuff done.
PEOPLE COME FIRST
- Hire the best. Then respectfully challenge them to do their best.
- Be honest. Be humble. Be you. With our customers, clients, competitors, and each other.
Techies and non-techies alike can appreciate the research that is undertaken at SquareTrade Labs and used by agents to respond to claims – from the advanced use of bendbots and dropbots to the old school technique of running the device over with a car to test durability. In one survey, SquareTrade researchers determined that 89% of all smartphone, tablet and laptop damage was done by kids. Not to be outdone by that interesting factoid, and in a somewhat shameless PR stunt, SquareTrade recently invited an MMA fighter into its labs to give an iPhone a serious chip-whooping! The iPhone didn’t stand a chance. It was a TKO!
The Orlando location held its official launch on March 28th, complete with a ribbon-cutting ceremony attended by the company’s CEO Ahmed Khaishgi, as well local celebrities including Governor Rick Scott and Orange County Mayor Teresa Jacobs. The center of excellence is an inviting space with a cool, edgy, Silicon Valley vibe and is filled with natural light. (SquareTrade is rather protective when it comes to images, so these are actually pulled from their site.) The team is young, enthusiastic and engaged. And it bears repeating, they are growing! Check out some of their job postings - http://www.squaretrade.com/jobs. All in attendance at the April Meeting received a warm welcome.
Thanks, SquareTrade, for the glimpse into your world!
